๐ŸŽ‰ **Celebrate the Vibrant Tradition of Gozzi's Turkey Farm!** ๐ŸŽ‰

As the holiday season approaches, there's a unique tradition that continues to enchant locals and visitors alike at Gozzi's Turkey Farm in Guilford, Connecticut. For nearly 40 years, this charming family tradition has been delighting everyone with its display of neon-colored turkeys ๐Ÿฆƒโœจ. Imagine turkeys in brilliant hues of pink, yellow, and orange adding a splash of color and joy to the farm.

This colorful custom was ingeniously started by the grandmother of the third-generation owner, and to this day, the technique used to dye the turkeys remains a closely guarded family secret ๐Ÿคซ๐Ÿ”‘. The vibrant turkeys are not just a feast for the eyes; they are considered to be "lucky" as they are never sold for Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒโค๏ธ.

Join in the magic and visit Gozziโ€™s Turkey Farm to see these extraordinary turkeys that have become a beloved holiday symbol in the community. ๐ŸŒŸ

Interesting Fact

Did You Know? ๐ŸŒŸ

An interesting holiday fact about Connecticut is that the town of Bethlehem becomes an iconic hub during December. Known as the "Christmas Town," Bethlehem, CT, receives hundreds of thousands of Christmas cards and letters from all over the world. The reason? They want their mail to bear the magical postmark from this festive town! ๐ŸŽ„

This enchanting tradition began in 1938 when the local postmaster, Earl Johnson, sent his personal Christmas cards adorned with a simple drawing and the words, "Merry Christmas from the little Town of Bethlehem." The charm of this gesture caught on rapidly after newspapers highlighted the unique postmark, leading to an explosion in mail volume. ๐Ÿ“ฌ

To this day, individuals send their holiday greetings to Bethlehem to acquire the special cachets (stamps) and uniquely designed postmarks, many of which are crafted by talented local artists. In celebration of this ongoing tradition, Bethlehem hosts an annual Christmas Town Festivalโ€”a joyous event featuring the lighting of the town's Christmas tree. Such a wonderful way to embrace the holiday spirit! ๐ŸŽ‰โœจ

Latin Deli Danbury

If your looking for a Diner, Drive-In or Dive. This one is a classic Dive. Dive right into the pulled pork at this Deli. OMG when I say the best tasting pork you can find outside of Puerto Rico. The food here is really great. They have your classic offerings of Rice, Beans, Chicken and more. But let me give you my hack for this stop. Get the roasted pork and then go next door to the Pandaminas NY backery and get some sweets and their Portuguese rolls. When I say these rolls are the best tasting ever - I mean it. They have a slight crunchy crust with the fluffiest inside bread. I take the pork break open the roll and you have the best tasting flavored sandwhich you can make on the fly. If you make it home without eating it all, turn on your oven to 350 after it reaches temp turn off the oven and put the roll in for 1 minute. OMG this bread is heavenly. I buy like 10 and its only a few bucks. I get them for thanksgiving. My family fights over these rolls. If I had a restaurant these rolls is what I would use. Don't let the outside fool you. It is truely a hidden gem.

This trip we are still exploring Western Connecticut. This time we are heading west on Route 15 eventually going up to I 84. If you want to do this in reverse its up to you.

We start on Route 15 the Merritt Parkway. you know you have probably driven this route many times but have you ever really looked at the overpasses decorations? There are some really unique ones and one really creepy one that creeps me out. Just keep your eyes open while you drive it. Anyway we are heading to Route 33 north to Route 53 North. if your hungry or want to stop and get quick bite stop at the Country Store deli. I always make sure to stop at Delis just to see what they have, if they have their own made salads. I gotta try! Moving on follow Route 53. This is a leisurely ride to start some great scenery and if you like stop at some of the Farms along the way. They make still have some great fruit and vegetable offerings as well as eggs! Support your local farmer. On Route 53 there is also Lily's Weston Market that offers farm to table products. They have lots to choose from. Again I always stop and see what I can get that larger chain groceries don't offer. As you drive north you will pass by Saugatuck Reservoir hopefully the leaves will be down and you can see it. Up a little ways and you will get a view from the bridges in any case. Keep following Route 53 and you will see The Redding Road House. Here you can get a bite to eat or some crafted beer. they are a bar, kitchen and general store. After that head up to Mark Twain Library. Take a look inside and get inspired with your next book. Remember if you have a library card it can get you discount entry into museums, books and movies online and more. Check your local library. Get a card its free. If your feeling adventurous or want to get some great photos head over to Saugatuck Falls and take a little hike. We continue on Rt 53 north and if you like to decorate early for the holidays well your going to want to stop at Bobs Tree Farm. They have a small collection of trees. Check their website for hours. They only do cash. If your looking for fresh Turkey then Iron Hill Farm is going to be your stop. heading into Redding I suggest you make a detour to Downtown, so take a right on Beech then another right onto Greenwood. Here you will find some cool little shops like The Toy Room, Dr Mikes Ice Cream Shop, Gift Cottage and Broken Symmetry Brew Pub. Remember don't drink and drive. Getting back onto Greenwood it will meet back to Route 53 at that corner is Sycamore Drive in if your hungry again. Then head up Rt 53 where we head into Danbury for the final stop but the best stop at the Railway Museum. Gotta stop there. Even if you are not a fan of trains - you gotta stop there and see these giants and what they were used for and where they have been! After this you will see the entrance to I84 to head back home. Keep Exploring!
